October Musicians Gathering #32 promises to be spectcular!

Hannah Rose Nicholas/Josh Machiz

Hannah & Josh are Philadelphia-based multi-instrumentalists and composers who have been playing together and co-collaborating on original songs since they met last winter.

Hannah (viola, vocals) performs with ensembles including the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Pennsylvania Ballet Orchestra. She is a founding member of Shizuka duo. Her lyrics and vocals can be heard on The alt Default EP and on her upcoming solo EP.

Jack Zaferes & Co.

Jack Zaferes is a multi-instrumentalist, arranger and composer based in Philadelphia, PA. His style fuses jazz, funk, rock, electronic and classical music. Mostly self-taught, he has been touring and creating music of his own for over a decade. In 2017, he began working on solo compositions for larger ensembles. Influenced by such musical greats as Jaco Pastorius, Weather Report, Pink Floyd, Snarky Puppy, Claude Debussy and John Coltrane. Jack strives to break musical norms and boundaries as he continues to evolve his music.

Members of the Prometheus Chamber Orchestra

Formed in 2013, PROMETHEUS is a collective of musicians joined together by the mission of creating social change through art, in the Philadelphia community and beyond. PROMETHEUS works toward bridging the gap between audience and performer, and also seeks to strengthen the community by sharing in and living by a democratic model of an orchestra. Currently ensemble-in-residence at the historic Church of the Advocate in North Philadelphia, PROMETHEUS is guided by the collective leadership of its members, allowing for a shared artistic responsibility without a conductor. PROMETHEUS musicians are classically trained at the highest level, having studied at major conservatories and universities such as the Curtis Institute, San Francisco Conservatory, Indiana University, the Hartt School of Music, and Temple University. Prometheus musicians have experience and training in many different styles of music, including Baroque practices, contemporary improvisation, symphonic and chamber music, and even rock, bluegrass and jazz.

Michelle Lordi

Vocalist, songwriter and bandleader Michelle Lordi has received international accolades and heavy rotation on jazz radio stations in the US and abroad for her recording projects, “Drive” (2015) and “Dream A Little Dream” ( 2017) . The title song from her album “ Drive” was featured in heavy rotation on more than 20 Jazz stations and was included in NPR “ Jazz Night In America” broadcasts, while the album “Drive” reached the top 50 on the jazz charts.

Whether she’s performing with bebop jazz legends ( Dream A Little Dream) , exploring experimental soundscapes in her original music ( “ Eidolon” with Tim Motzer or Warren Defever) , or delivering her taut, mesmerizing jazz interpretations of pop ballads ( Orrin Evans ( Drive) , Eric Wortham II) , Lordi’s profound love of the music she chooses to sing and the musicians she creates with is evident in every note of her vividly expressive and elegantly communicative voice.
