Announcing the Artist Finalist
Stenton is Thrilled to Announce the Artist for The Dinah Memorial Project & Invites the Community to Join us for an Artist Presentation on November 20th
Artist Finalist: Karyn Olivier
Stenton is thrilled to announce that artist Karyn Olivier has been commissioned to create a new memorial to Dinah, a once-enslaved woman credited with saving Stenton during the Revolution. “I can’t tell you how excited and honored I am to be trusted with this important commission. I hope this new work will keep Dinah alive — not just for the Logan community and Stenton, where she will be memorialized, but in the greater Philadelphia community as well,” said Olivier, who is an Associate Professor and Program Head of the Sculpture Department at Temple University’s Tyler School of Art and Architecture. Olivier was selected after a nearly year-long process, during which Stenton engaged in conversations with neighbors to determine how to best interpret, elevate, and commemorate the full story of Dinah. Community members were then invited to evaluate concepts for the memorial developed by three artist finalists.
All are invited to a meeting and meal at Stenton on November 20, 2019 at 5:00pm, where Olivier will share an updated design for the memorial.
