| On Sunday, December 1st, 2019 at the Barnes Foundation, as part of PECO Free First Sunday Family Day, The Philadelphia Jazz Project (PJP) presents Philadelphia Jazz Stories. It all starts at 1 pm with a performance by alto saxophonist Larry Price and bassist Warren Oree, followed by a 2 pm performance by guitarist Jeff Scull and bassist Justin Sekelewski.
Then, at 3 pm Homer Jackson, director of the Philadelphia Jazz Project, is joined by African American studies scholar Diane Turner, art director Eric Battle, and illustrator Denise Erickson to discuss the new book Philadelphia Jazz Stories Illustrated: Volume One. These true accounts (and tall tales) were penned by historians, journalists, fans, and musicians, and the illustrations were created by a stunning lineup of Philly-connected visual artists. The creative trio behind the book—graphic designer Lynn Washington, Marvel and DC Comics veteran illustrator Eric Battle, and interdisciplinary artist and Philadelphia Jazz Project director Homer Jackson—will be onsite to autograph copies!
