Musicians Gathering #28 at Rittenhouse Soundworks
Philadelphia Women’s Slavic Ensemble
The Philadelphia Women’s Slavic Ensemble began in West Philly in 2011 as a few friends sharing simple Slavic folk songs, a cappella. Since then, we have grown into a community of women of all skill level and vocal type who celebrate the “chest voice”; a style of singing that stems from Slavic folk tradition. We choose songs from Eastern Europe that encourage creativity, boldness, and unapologetic self-expression. You can find us at all types of community events, usually with homemade flower crowns and a bottle of red wine.

FALSA
Described as “the cure for alienation” and “music that’s not about means to ends but about meaning and transcendence”, Falsa is an amazing musical experience rooted in 14th century Sufi music. The effect of listening to Falsa is to be transported both inwards and across centuries of joys, sorrows and longings.
