The Colored Girls Museum distinguishes itself by exclusively collecting, preserving and decoding ‘artifacts’ pertaining to the experience and history of Colored Girls. Such objects are submitted by the Colored Girl herself and received as empirical evidence of herstory.

The museum initiates the “ordinary” object—offered by the colored girl herself, as representative of an aspect of her story which she finds meaningful and resonate; her object embodies her experience and expression of being a Colored Girl—we look and learn through her lens.

The Colored Girls Museum acknowledges and celebrates the unique perspectives and achievements of a group of citizens whose history has often been invisible.
