SUMMARY:Bethlehem & Sad Patrick at Germantown Expresso
DESCRIPTION:“If you’re in search of evidence that the Philly open mic scene is very much thriving\, look no further than Bethlehem and Sad Patrick. The local duo blends the focused minimalism and poetic lyrics of folk tradition with simmering\, freewheeling jazz and blues — slick guitars\, soaring vocals\, nuanced melodies. And it all came together by chance. A few years back\, Patrick Arkins was running an open mic at what is now Malelani Cafe in Germantown\, when Bethlehem Roberson stopped by one night to sing with her family. Arkins was blown away\, and when he saw her returning to the series on the regular to perform\, he approached her with the idea of singing one of his songs. For rhythm\, Bethlehem began using a tarima\, a raised wooden box that amplifies footstomps to kickdrum levels; her handclaps and finger snaps accentuate the beat. Sad Patrick\, meanwhile\, plays a Godin electric guitar through a very portable Fishman amp. They like the setup due to its simplicity\, and say that audiences respond to its uniqueness. Occasionally\, instrumental collaborators color the studio soundscape with solos and guest spots — listen for the subtle horn arrangements on Did You Ever Do? — but the project is a duo at its core\, with a very natural give-and-take. When pressed about it\, Bethlehem and Sad Patrick tell us they will likely remain a duo\, to keep that chemistry intact.” – The Key XPN

Influenced by such musical greats as Jaco Pastorius\, Weather Report\, Pink Floyd\, Snarky Puppy\, Claude Debussy and John Coltrane. Jack strives to break musical norms and boundaries as he continues to evolve his music. \nhttps://m.facebook.com/jackzaferesmusic/ \nMembers of the Prometheus Chamber Orchestra \nFormed in 2013\, PROMETHEUS is a collective of musicians joined together by the mission of creating social change through art\, in the Philadelphia community and beyond. PROMETHEUS works toward bridging the gap between audience and performer\, and also seeks to strengthen the community by sharing in and living by a democratic model of an orchestra. Currently ensemble-in-residence at the historic Church of the Advocate in North Philadelphia\, PROMETHEUS is guided by the collective leadership of its members\, allowing for a shared artistic responsibility without a conductor. PROMETHEUS musicians are classically trained at the highest level\, having studied at major conservatories and universities such as the Curtis Institute\, San Francisco Conservatory\, Indiana University\, the Hartt School of Music\, and Temple University. Prometheus musicians have experience and training in many different styles of music\, including Baroque practices\, contemporary improvisation\, symphonic and chamber music\, and even rock\, bluegrass and jazz.\nhttp://www.prometheuschamberorchestra.org/ \nMichelle Lordi \nVocalist\, songwriter and bandleader Michelle Lordi has received international accolades and heavy rotation on jazz radio stations in the US and abroad for her recording projects\, “Drive” (2015) and “Dream A Little Dream” ( 2017) . The title song from her album “ Drive” was featured in heavy rotation on more than 20 Jazz stations and was included in NPR “ Jazz Night In America” broadcasts\, while the album “Drive” reached the top 50 on the jazz charts. \nWhether she’s performing with bebop jazz legends ( Dream A Little Dream) \, exploring experimental soundscapes in her original music ( “ Eidolon” with Tim Motzer or Warren Defever) \, or delivering her taut\, mesmerizing jazz interpretations of pop ballads ( Orrin Evans ( Drive) \, Eric Wortham II) \, Lordi’s profound love of the music she chooses to sing and the musicians she creates with is evident in every note of her vividly expressive and elegantly communicative voice.\nwww.michellelordi.com

In short\, an evening of magic and mind/heart traveling and dope-ass live art-sharing.” \nFeaturing:\nUrsula Rucker ringleader/narrator/orchestrator\nHprizm electronic sounds/music and visuals\nIron Gump world music percussion\, space clearing\, and blessing\nLady Alma vocal sinew/gospel conscience\nGermaine Ingram vocals and dance\nAnthony Molden live art-creating
